Analysis

Overall, the Blue team kept it very close despite being clearly disadvantaged. There were three key factors in this outcome:

1. Party Preference. A blanket +3 gave the Reds a strong margin of error in their reelection campaigns.

2. Incumbency bonuses. Almost no one was knocked off because on top of the Red +3, every Representative also got a +2. This also kept the Blue Representatives in office, so it did work both ways.

3. Ideology. Conservatives got -2 due to the state of the meters, meaning that Red Conservatives only had a +1 bonus (or +3 if they were incumbents) and Blue Conservatives got a -2. Blue Liberals experienced the greatest success and closest races, particularly against Red Conservatives, due to their +2 bonus.

Overall, I actually really like how this election turned out. Despite Americans preferring the Red team, they want a more active federal government to get us out of some of the crises we're currently in, so they strategically cast their ballots for Blue Liberals over Red Conservatives. Incumbents got the bonus they needed to keep a historic outcome without a ton of seat changing. This feels like a good balance, at least for this election.

Welcome to 1784!

President Bartram has won reelection, and Postmaster General Saltonstall has assumed the Vice Presidency. The Red Party held on to their supermajorities for the most part, but took a small hit in the House while gaining a Governorship.

Now we'll move to the 1784 draft.

The top red picks are Charles Pinckney (76), Alexander Hamilton (73) and Levin Wilder (69, nice). A notable pick is Charles Bartram III, grandson of President Bartram.

The top blue picks are James Monroe (50), Aaron Burr (47), and Nathaniel Macon (42). A notable pick is James Jackson, who in one of the very first playthroughs (back in 2019) became President and declared a military dictatorship, ending that game.

 1784-1786 General Events

Senator or Rep on Committee Garners Attention.
We're certainly glad Thomas Paine is representing us in committee. Paine could be posturing for a run for higher office. Maybe we should take advantage of this?

@Rezi Thomas Paine gains +1 Legislative and +1 in his next election.

Stage Fright.
Did you read about Philemon Dickinson's speech last night? What a disaster! This speech was somehow worse than the one Dickinson gave last week!

RedModCPU Philemon Dickinson gains Incoherent.

1784-1786 Scripted Events

George Romney's Painting Fashionable in London.
Romney's paintings are becoming the most fashionable among England's elite society. [George Romney was the older cousin of Miles Romney. The latter moved from England to the US, later converted to Mormonism, an became the ancestor of George W Romney and Mitt Romney.]

No effect.

Watt's Steam Engine.
Scottish-inventor James Watt's Steam Engine has become a central piece to the Industrial Revolution, which is likely to spread to our shores.

Treaty of Aranjuez.
Word has arrived that Spain has agreed to support France in their war against King George III. This means Spain is indirectly aiding us in our cause. The terms, hashed out by the Comte de Vergennes of France and the Conde de Floridablanca of Spain, will see Spain aiding our cause in exchange for France aiding Spain in regaining former possessions lost to Great Britain.

RedLibCPU +50
@Cal +50

Treaty of Fort Stanwix.
We are about to embark on negotiations with the Iroquois League, a loose collection of Iroquois-speaking nations, in an effort to settle the entirety of Pennsylvania without native resistence. We have an opportunity here as these tribes lost most of their strength in this region when aiding the British during the late war. Most of them now live in Canada and the league itself is rather divided.

President John Bartram's response: Let's make peace with the Iroquois Confederacy so we can settle all of Pennsylvania without fear.

As this is an easy implementation and Secretary Clinton has 5 Admin and Efficient, he automatically resolves this all by himself.

The war with Iroquois League War is avoided!

Cal +50
BlooTradCPU +50

Treaty of Hopewell.
Our representative is ready to mean representatives of the Cherokee, Choctaw, and Chickasaw peoples at Hopewell Plantation in South Carolina. Should we proceed with this plan to define "firm" boundaries and guidelines for settlement in the west?

President John Bartram's response: We need this treaty to settle boundaries with these three tribes so that we can settle westward in peace.

As this is an easy implementation and Secretary Clinton has 5 Admin and Efficient, he automatically resolves this all by himself.

The Keowee War is avoided!

Cal +50
BlooTradCPU +50

Liberty Treaty with Spain.
Our negotiations with the Spain have led to the following compromise by Spanish Diplomat Diego de Gardoqui: Spain wants exclusive rights to the Mississippi River for 25 years. In exchange, they will allow American ships to trade in their European ports and in their ports in the West Indies. It is unclear if this is a fair trade or not.

President John Bartram's response: We hate to give Spain exclusive rights to the Mississippi River, but we need more allies. Sign the treaty.

Revenue-budget would decrease, but it's currently at the lowest possible level anyway.

RedLibCPU +50.

Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.
English Historian Edward Gibbon publishes a titanic study on the collapse of the Roman Empire. We only hope that a future historian will not have to write the same sort of book about us.

No effect.

Because my faction gained the most points and passed a 25% roll, Conservative enthusiasm moves +1 Red.

1784-1786: Lingering Phase

Secretary Milton increases Military Prep by 1! (was already maxed out)

Secretary Clinton increases UK Relations by 2! (4 --> 6) We are now almost Friendly with the British!
Key Advisor Wilson increases British relations by 2! (6 --> 8.) We are now Friendly and almost Allies with the British!

Key Advisor Wilson increases Spanish relations by 2!
He also decrease them by 2, balancing out.

Postmaster General George Wythe decreases Honest Gov by 1!

1784-1786: Congress in Session

I'm going to be real with you all here: the outcome here is already guaranteed. There is barely any legislation left, and that which is left all deals with the Revenue/Budget crisis and Economic Stability Crisis and only gives points, no harm. In a red supermajority, it's just not worth the effort to do committees, proposing, etc. Unless the Blue team takes over a few more seats, it's going to be hell for the Red team with nothing left to propose next time around. So the following legislation is guaranteed to be passed by the CPU:

Mississippi Territory
Northwest Territory (OH)
Southwest Territory (TN)
Territory West of Virginia (KY)

It all passes, but has no impact on any of the meters 😛

Cal: 1700
RedConCPU: 0
RedModCPU: 200
RedLibCPU: 100
RedProgCPU: 500

BlooTradCPU: 900
BlooConCPU: 0
BlooModCPU: 100
BlooLibCPU: 100
Rezi: 400

Conservatives move +1 Red. (now a +3 for all Conservative candidates)
Conservatives then move +1 Bloo. (And then back down to +2)

RW Populists move +1 Red. (Now a +2 for Red RW Populists)
Moderates move +2 Bloo. (Now a +1 for Red Moderates)

Election time!

President Bartram has continued his incredible success so far. Outside of the budget, anyway.

In his first term, he blitzed through the Northwest Indian war in a resounding success. In the first half of his second term, he avoided two potential wars with natives.

He's almost secured an alliance with the British. If things stay on this track by the end of his term he'll have formed an alliance with all of the major European powers: The British, the French, and the Spanish.

Domestic stability has remained at the highest I've seen it in any playthrough.

He's admitted 4 new territories that will one day become states.

Things are looking up! But, chances are, this will be the first significant setback for his merry band of Reds. Samuel Adams' takeover of the Blue Party brought with it a wave of popular support for his party -- while they still prefer the Red Party, it's only a +1 modifier now. Additionally, ideological enthusiasm and the increasing fatigue from some of the Governor's races could prove to be an issue. Red Conservatives are likely to see great success, coupling a +1 Party Preference bonus with a +2 from enthusiasm. All Conservatives do however face a -1 from the state of the budget. However, in races without a Red Conservative, it's likely that a Bloo Liberal could dethrone Red incumbents with their +2 enthusiasm, and Bloo LW Populists get +3.

Combine that with a -1 for the President's party in the midterms, a -1 from our economic crisis, and running the right candidates, and we may see the Blue team come close to taking over the House!

Wait. In your analysis, how did enthusiasm hurt red conservatives and blue conservatives alike?

Ideological Enthusiasm helped Red Conservatives with a +3, but ALL Conservatives got -1 from the Revenue Budget meter and another -1 from something else if I recall. (Not currently at my PC)

Interesting interpretation!  I've taken the -1 to mean that ideology enthusiasm moves one square away from the incumbent party...but that's just my personal interpretation as I've never really 100% understood @vcczar's intent on how that's supposed to work.

That's the correct interpretation.

So, what happens when it moves back up? Is the enthusiasm reversed? If it goes up and then back down, do you process those losses twice? Is it only calculated on moving to that square, so staying there forever once the other party gets you there has no negative effect on enthusiasm? (In the case of Rev/Budget) Do you calculate the hit when you move UP a square as well, punishing a party for raising the meter?

Either way, it made no difference in this scenario at least but I’d love to know the correct way moving forward.
