Priorities of the Chamber (Freeform)

@Rezi Senator Schumer, a week ago it seemed clear that you would be robbed of your position at the top of the higher chamber in Congress. Many speculated that Republicans would appoint two Republicans to fill the seats left vacant by the tragedies that took the lives of Senator Ossof and Senator Sanders. Many speculated that at least one of those seats would be filled by a Republican, leaving the Senate tied 50-50 with no Vice President to break the tie. But, instead, you stand now in the chamber ready to get down to business with a thin 51-49 majority. Now that you're here... what would you like to pursue first?

1. Our first priority is to begin hearings immediately for vacancies in cabinet and to negotiate with President Austin to get the government running efficiently again.

2. Our first priority is to begin an investigation into the actions of January 6th, 2023 and explore a 9/11 Commission style bipartisan effort, or something similar.

3. Our first priority is to pass emergency legislation to address national security concerns, perhaps something like the PATRIOT Act though likely on a lesser scale.

You're free to choose your own path here on what your priorities are to begin the legislative session in earnest so these options are not limits, just potential suggestions. You can choose the general area you'd like to pursue and I can give a campaign decision within that, or as suggested by @Pringles you can have more flexibility and whatever you choose to do I'll inform you of what I perceive the rolls/modifiers for that to be.

Perks of the Job Pt. 1

One of the greatest things about being the defacto leader of the Democrats behind the scenes is that candidates vying for nominations for state and local offices across the country are dependent on you for support. The job of the national party is to boost up these hidden gems and prepare them for their entrance to the grand stage, and to do that they'll need a lot of resources. Money, strategists, debate prep, campaign literature, all of it is vital for a campaign to succeed in the 21st century.

The DNC has a significant amount of funding that is earmarked for elections next year. However, the sudden special elections have gotten some wondering if it may be necessary to dip into this cash fund to hold on to the Senate majority, or even to take back the House before next year. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in donations over the past two weeks from the boom of support the party has received. Should we stick to the plan and spend the money on races scheduled for 2024, or should we spend early to try to defend our majority now and potentially win a few upsets in the House?

Option 1: Don't touch the funds and continue fundraising.
There is very little chance we can flip the House from where we stand now and the Senate seats are favorable enough. It would be a waste to spend this unexpected windfall now when it could be so useful next year. I'll focus my energy not on pointless strategizing for this year, but instead on meetings with high-worth donors to (Patient)

Difficulty: Easy.
May increase Fundraising.

Option 2: Spend on special House elections.
There's a very real chance we could take just enough seats in the current climate to kick McCarthy or whoever succeeds him to the curb. We need to strike now while the iron is hot and take advantage of this opportunity. However, it's going to require you and your staff to really dig into these local issues and candidates if this will be successful.

Difficulty: Easy-Hard (depending on what specific races you target if you choose to be more specific)
May increase Issue Familiarity.

Option 3: Spend on special Senate elections.
It may seem wasteful, but defending our majority now is of the utmost priority. If we were to lose the Senate, who knows what the Republicans could do to unseat President Austin? Could we see President McConnell? No one knows and we don't want to find out. But with these huge Senate races in such a short amount of time, your ability to work with the media to settle on a definite image of our candidates to present to voters will be tested.

Difficulty: Easy.
May increase Media.

Option 4: Save the money, but spend some on our own faction.
It would be underhanded, but we could divert just the additional funds we've received so far to key races we think that our own faction's candidates might benefit the most in. It wouldn't affect our chances in the races next year if we never expected to have extra cash anyway.

Difficulty: Moderate.
Roguery requirement: 6 (met)
May increase Roguery.

Schumer thinks it's time for President Austin to create a true and proper Cabinet. He is the President after all, and even if the GOP would prefer he act like a lame duck, that's not going to happen. In order to protect the President, though, Schumer will for the mean time only allow vacancies for Secretary of Defense and any positions lower in the line of succession to be filled. This means, for now, that the Vice Presidency, Secretary of The Treasury, President Pro Tempore, and Speaker or Secretary of State, if it comes to that, will remain unfilled. In the meanwhile, Schumer will begin negotiations within his faction to amend the Presidential Succession Act to make it clear that President Austin is not acting President, but indeed the President.

Schumer has no worries about the Senate. Any scenario in which Washington, Massachusetts, or Vermont don't fall in line involves much worse problems for Democrats than losing a Senate seat. Some of those House specials are pretty out of reach for one side or the other, too. But it's not like it's worth not touching them unless things start to look bad. Schumer will put spending into flipping CA-48 and FL-7. Shocking the GOP in either of these races can send a powerful message to Republican leadership and the American people about who the real Peoples' Party is. One that brings strong, steady governance and not chaos. Past those two races, it's not worth funding any races unless they start to look unexpectedly close. So the party can spend on these two House races while still saving most of their donations.

The Official Establishment GOP Shortlist:

2023 Special Senate Elections:

Washington: We will bring back the great Tiffany Smiley and have her run for the special election. Second time’s a charm you know.

Regular Senate Elections:

Arizona: Kari Lake? Meghan McCain? Let’s get Karrin Taylor Robson in the mix. She will make a fine senator for the great state of Arizona.

Indiana: Eric Holcomb was a great governor of the Hoosier State, and in turn would make a great senator of the Hoosier State.

Maine: With admittedly a very poor shortlist of candidates, the establishment had to dig deep for this one. We will put up William "Billy Bob" Faulkingham, the current minority leader of the Maine House of Representatives.

Michigan: James Craig may have gotten disqualified from the gubernatorial race, but that doesn’t mean his ambitions ended there. Say hello to Michigan’s next senator!

Minnesota: It’s odd times in 2023, and it seems that Tim Pawlenty has decided he wants to commence a political comeback after his failure in 2018. We support him!

Montana: Ryan Zinke coming right up to unseat Mr. Tester!

Nebraska: Fischer and Ricketts will both run.

Nevada: “My name is Rick Harrison and this is my pawn shop”

North Dakota: Kevin Kramer will run.

Ohio: Frank LaRose is a good guy and would 100% serve Ohio with valor!

Pennsylvania: “Fucking Mehmet, guy lost to Fetterman of all people. It’s my time to shine now.” - David McCormick.

Virginia: Glenn Youngkin announces that he will seek to defeat Tim Kaine. He upset McAuliffe in 2021, he can upset Kaine in 2024.

Washington: Susan Hutchison will run for senator.

West Virginia: It’s time for Big Jim to move from the state capitol and into the U.S. capitol.

Wisconsin: Mike Gallagher announces a run for senate.

Gubernatorial elections (2023):

Kentucky: Kelly Craft announces a run for governor.

Louisiana: The Establishment endorses Sharon Hewitt.

Gubernatorial elections (2024):

Delaware: Colin Bonini

Indiana: Mike Braun

Missouri: Mike Kehoe

Montana: Greg Gianforte

North Carolina: Dale Folwell

North Dakota: Doug Burgum

Washington: J. T. Wilcox

West Virginia: Arch Alfred Moore Capito

This just in: bomb discovered at the South Dakota governor’s mansion. Unfortunately, it’s discovery was prompted by its detonation.

On the bright side, that makes a legitimate special election? 😛 (Jk)

Promising to bring stability to the people is always going to win you some goodwill. Especially at a time when its possible that we could have a rotating chief executive when we are still reeling from the actions of the mob just a few weeks prior.

While it would typically take some time to fill a cabinet vacancy that occurs during a presidents term rather than an initial appointment, it's likely that some elbow grease can get the President's picks through in closer to a week or two given the desire for expediency. Action will go to @Pringles to submit his nominations for...

Secretary of Defense
Secretary of Commerce
Secretary of the Treasury

You are also welcome to submit any nominee to the higher cabinet positions regardless of Schumer's instructions if you choose to risk it. Alternatively, you could submit a nominee that is not eligible to hold the presidency, or just wait until the succession issue is resolved. Speaking of...

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Presidential Succession Act of 2023 will now be proposed to the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, chaired by @Rezi Dick Durbin. Accordingly, you will get the option to draft the new succession law as you see fit if you choose. As your stated priority is to legitimate President Austin, one potential option is to simply remove the bumping mechanism that allows Austin to be usurped by anyone higher in the line of succession. However, there are other options available to you. Serving in the same committee is @Hestia Senator Klobuchar and @Murrman104 Senator Hirono, who both may propose amendments to what you suggest.

It seems a wise decision at this point in time to spend on these two races. It is unlikely that the Democrats will flip the House in 2023 barring some huge upsets and saving that money for candidates with a better chance of tipping the scale is strategic.

Nonetheless, the slow trickle of funds into CA-48 and FL-7, two districts that lean Republican, are going to be very beneficial combined with the national public sentiment against the GOP. Hopefully it will pay off.

Roll 4.

The Sunshine State

@The Blood Where the hell does that Ron guy get off? You'd think that DeSantis would recognize that the only reason he is in power is because of the movement behind President Trump that launched him to the top executive in the state, but obviously his presidential ambitions have caused him to experience delusions. He was one of the first governors in the party to condemn the patriots who stormed the capitol on January 6th and he's been a consistent pain in your ass since then.

As he's continued gearing up for a presidential run he has only gotten more combative with his antics. A chief policy win of his was the Don't Say Gay bill that passed in the state legislature, banning education on the topics of gender and sexuality until 3rd grade. A few months ago, Disney publicly opposed this move and as a result DeSantis and the state legislature forcibly removed the company's special tax-exempt status. This is a move with huge repercussions for the state. And, potentially, an opportunity for you.

Governor DeSantis announced today that he would be refusing to consider the Florida legislature's proposal from a special legislative session to repeal the revocation of Disney's special tax-exempt status. This is a move with enormous repercussions for the state. Due to some legal complexities regarding Disney's status, this would transfer over $1 billion in debt from Disney's special district to the Florida government. This move from DeSantis is likely a bluff; he may well sign a bill unrevoking the tax-exempt status after all and just use this as a moment to gain the attention of conservatives across the country who see him as cracking down on liberal indoctrination.

However... You could use this to your advantage. More specifically, your father could help you out here. After all, you are the son of the former President of the Florida Senate, and you've got significant connections to the state legislature. If you come down hard on this you may be able to even get DeSantis to have to deal with formal impeachment proceedings.

Alternatively, you could leverage this as blackmail against the Governor in return for some kind of favor or another that suits your ambitions best.

If nothing else, you can just completely leave it alone and the situation will likely resolve itself.

What will you do?

Option 1: Impeach that motherfucker.
I can absolutely leverage this to kick DeSantis to the curb, or at least ruin his presidential ambitions. When I'm done with him, he'll be a washed up excuse for a former governor with no chance of holding office ever again. Perhaps the Lieutenant Governor will be able to be controlled, too. No matter what, this is an opportunity to rehab my image and even mimic some integrity, I'll just have to be convincing enough to the state legislature in explaining how bad this could be for Florida. (Egotistical, Populist)

Difficulty: Hard.
Charisma check: 6 (met)
May increase Leadership.

Option 2: Blackmail DeSanctimonious.
Do you realize what gold this is? I can ruin Ron and he knows it. Maybe I'll force him to endorse me for Senate if I want. Maybe I'll ask that he pull some favors for the investigation into January 6th if it ever happens. Maybe I'll even demand that he dump his current Lieutenant Governor and put me on the ticket instead for the next election. Hell, I could make him endorse me for president if I want to! The sky is the limit. (Self-interested, Egotistical)

Difficulty: Intermediate-Hard (depends on demands)
Roguery requirement: 8 (met)
May increase various stats.

Option 3: Let it go or show my support.
This is an opportunity to make amends with the Republican establishment here in Florida and it would be beneficial for Governor DeSantis to see that we can be allies rather than enemies. I'll never have a long and successful political career with a target on my back, and this is the first direction in removing it. Perhaps if I stay out of this and make inroads with the establishment I can see an uptick in donations? (Populist)

Difficulty: Easy.
May increase Fundraising.

President Lloyd Austin considered multiple lineups of candidates, including incumbent Representatives in the House with strong credentials for the 3 jobs that needed filling.

However, it would just have to wait.

Preferring not to rock the boat President Lloyd Austin will elevate all Under Secretaries to the top jobs.

Defense - Kathleen Hicks
Commerce - Jed Kolko
Treasury - Nelly Liang

President Austin hopes the Senate shall be swift in confirming them and even more-so in returning to the People's business.

Durbin will draft The Presidential Succession Act of 2023 in very plain wording, with some key changes.

  1. There is no ability for usurping. Once you are President, that is that. "Once the oath of office is administered to an individual, that individual is not the Acting President, but indeed the President of the United States."
  2. The Speaker of the House and Pres. Pro Tempore positions will be moved to the bottom of the line of succession, now occupying spots 17 and 18, respectively. This moves Secretary of State up to spot 2 and all positions following it up 2 spots.
  3. Should the President be incapacitated and the Vice Presidency be vacant, the highest remaining member of the line will be Acting President until the President's recovery or death. In accordance with the first clause of this act, Acting Presidents will not take the oath of office in this scenario.

Durbin remains skeptical but open to any further amendments.

Matt Gaetz lounged at the desk in his Congressional office during the midafternoon, once again locked in deep contemplation. 2024 presented numerous opportunities for him, yet the Congressman knew to tread lightly as he took his next steps in American politics. In such chaotic times, a wrong move would be not only his own downfall, but the downfall of the entire MAGA movement, surrendering America to the Swamp, Deep State, and globalists before Gaetz had the opportunity to bring righteous damnation down on these foes.

As Matt considered a 2024 presidential run, the prospect turned from promising to sour in his mind quickly. A presidential campaign left him exposed, at the full mercy of the media and RINO establishment. No, with the MAGA movement's vulnerability following 1/6, a sacrificial lamb would be required for 2024. A candidate who could maintain the movement's strength and bring fury down on the establishment, but who could also be an acceptable casualty of Gaetz's grand plan. With this, the Congressman understood he needed a firm political foundation to lead MAGA into the future, not primary debate stages and Iowan corn husks.

So, Gaetz then turned his attention to opportunities in his home state of Florida. Governor DeSantis' recent trouble over Disney was a joyous event for Gaetz, as the Congressman knew that disgusting creature would do anything for the salvation of his political career. And with the prospect of impeachment hanging over Ron's head, Gaetz could smash the Swamp's dreams for 2024, punishing movement conservatives for their insolence in even considering DeSantis as an alternative to the MAGA vision for the GOP. And, with DeSantis' endorsement, Gaetz could be propelled to an easy primary victory for any office in Florida. So, to kill two birds with one stone, the Congressman resolved to use Ron DeSantis' conflict with The Mouse to his advantage, securing his own political path in Florida and opening up the 2024 presidential race by removing a key frontrunner.

The next morning, Gaetz rang up Tallahassee.

DeSantis: Congressman? I wasn't expecting a call from you of all people, especially since you've seemed so busy making yourself a target since the 6th.

Gaetz: And I was barely expecting your secretary to put me through. Look, Ron, I'm just calling because I'm concerned about Casey. She must be trembling with fear these days.

DeSantis: Excuse me?

Gaetz: I just can't imagine what it's like to see your husband's career on the edge of a cliff, all because he had to make Disney pay taxes. I mean, assuming $1 billion in debt for the state just for a political stunt? She must think you're trying to get impeached, Ron.

DeSantis: Cut the crap, Gaetz. I'm not here to play your games. If you don't want me to hang up, say your piece.

Gaetz: Well, then, let me be clear. Your governorship is on the edge of a cliff. And if you ignore me, I will be the one to push it off, tumbling down to the rocks. Casey will cry in your arms as her dreams of being First Lady are crushed, and your kids will wonder why daddy got fired! All I need to kick you out of office is a plane ticket to Tallahassee and a few days whipping my dad's old pals in the state legislature.

DeSantis: I get your point. Now tell me what you want.

Gaetz: I think I'm feeling generous today, Ron, so I'll only ask for two things. First, Voldemort's going to announce his retirement soon. Don't worry, I'm sending him to a nice farm upstate. But for the Senate primary afterwards, I'll be counting on your support for my campaign. Second, you'll need to break the news to your donors that the show's over, because this week I'll expect a statement from you shooting down any 2024 hopes. I know all your Swamp buddies will be disappointed, but don't worry, 2028's always there.

DeSantis: I'm not just gonna sit here and take threats from you. I'm the biggest name in the GOP right now, and if you want to fight, I will fight you until you're out of Congress and on the curb begging for change.

Gaetz: Oh Ron, I guess even weasels like you lash out when they're cornered. Don't worry, I don't expect your answer right now. Just think about it and make your decision knowing that my threats are never empty. Also, send Casey my best wishes. I know she needs them with such a pathetic man as her husband.

Congressman Gaetz ends the call.

Florida (Lean R)

(Senate list updated)

Matt Gaetz, having convinced Rick Scott to announce his surprising retirement, immediately flew to Pensacola to announce his Senate campaign. Sporting sunglasses for his fiery announcement speech, Congressman Gaetz would make his message clear, proclaiming:

"They killed our President! The Deep State, pursuing their globalist, Soros-funded agenda of enslaving this country, shot and killed President Trump because he dared to oppose them! And now, an illegitimate Swamp puppet is in the White House, pretending he has the right to point the finger at God-fearing Americans for the tragedy of January 6th. Under him, the Great Reset is happening before our eyes, and the First Amendment has already been declared null and void under this Administration. Well, are Floridians going to accept this tyranny? Hell no! We are going to take our country back, starting by electing a true Patriot as our next Senator! Someone who isn't afraid to stand up to "President" Austin and RINOs like Mitch McConnell! A Congressman who always stood beside President Trump, and who saw through the fraud of the 2020 election! A warrior for truth and justice who will stop at nothing to run the Deep State out of power! The name of this Patriot is Matt Gaetz, and today he is announcing his campaign for U.S. Senate! I am running because our country is almost out of time to stop the Great Reset, and I'm not ready to surrender a Senate seat to low-energy Jeb! So, let's get to work, Florida, because our state is a fortress in the fight against Soros and his Swamp, and we need to keep it that way!"
